3000 B.C. The Indus Valley civilization begins. Mohenjo-Daro is one of the largest cities of the time with 40,000 people. It had wide main streets and neighborhoods were surrounded by walls. It had a sewer system that was carefully planned. Most buildings were made out mud bricks cooked in ovens. There were large group wells in the center of town.
600 B.C. Siddhartha Gautama is the founder of Buddhism. He is known as Buddha or “the enlightened one.” He was from a small kingdom in the foothills of the Himalayas, around present day Nepal.
551 B.C. Confucius is born. Confucius was known as the as the First Teacher. He had many wise sayings so he had “students” follow him around wherever he went. They recorded his sayings and made them into Confucianism.
